MHAL Mission Statement

The Mental Health and Aging Lab is committed to expanding the understanding of mental illness in older adults. We acknowledge that there is a deficit of geropsychologists, and as the population collectively ages, there is a growing need for mental health knowledge and resources for older adults. Specifically, the Mental Health and Aging Lab aims to improve our understanding of the prevention of mental illness in older adulthood, with a focus on depression, suicide, and insomnia.

As members of a growing profession, we are committed to inspiring, developing, and training the next generation of geropsychologists as a diverse professional group prepared to make meaningful contributions to the lives of all older adults. It is imperative that future geropsychologists encompass a wide range of racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. To achieve this goal, the Mental Health and Aging Lab is committed to offering an inclusive and safe research environment for graduate and undergraduate students.
